Typically it takes between 3-10 working days, depending on the current demand and volume of tapes.

If you are worried about paying for the conversion of a tape that may not have footage on it… do not fear! We do not charge the conversion fee for blank tapes.

We do not convert commercial/copyrighted tapes without written permission to do so from the producer of the footage.

With all tapes, there is always a slight risk of tapes snapping. But do not panic. We are able to repair all minor damage. If you have a tape or two at home with the same problem, feel free to bring them along with your other tapes. We would be more than happy to repair and convert them for you as well. With that, there is a slight possibility of you losing a couple of seconds of footage in the case of a severely damaged tape, as we tend cut out badly damaged tape; however, this is what is necessary to preserve the remaining memories!

All of your tapes will be given back to you when you pickup your DVD(s)/USB and they are still playable if you have the equipment necessary to do so.

If you have a storage device (USB/Hardrive) at your disposal, you are more than welcome to bring it along with your tapes. If not, we are more than happy to purchase a device for you; however, the cost of that device will be added onto the total cost of your order. We recommend 3GB of free space per tape.

Once the tapes are completed, you will be contacted with the total cost of your order. You will then pay upon collection of your tapes. Payments can be made with cash or eftpos.

If you are unhappy with any of the conversions, we are open to working together with you to find an appropriate solution depending on the issue. Solutions include converting tapes again or, in the worst-case scenario, receiving a refund/discount for the tapes you are not satisfied with.

After you have been in contact with us, we can organise a time for you to drop off your tapes or we can pick them up from you if you are within our pickup area. We are flexible in offering times varying from morning to night to best suit your time schedule. The same process goes for pickup. After your order has been completed, you will be contacted with the final cost and a request to schedule a pickup/drop-off time that best suits you. Unfortunately, we do take orders by postage, however you, the customer, will be fully responsibile for ANY damage or loss in transit of ANY items you mail to us or we send you..

Depending on the length of the tape you can either opt to have one tape per DVD, or you can have multiple tapes on one DVD. When you confirm your order with us, we will ask which way you would prefer to have your DVDs converted. Each DVD comes with a customised home screen menu from which you can then select which tape you would like to watch.

Yes! We can certainly convert NTSC formatted tapes.

Our typical turn around time is 2-3 weeks depending on customer load and demand at the time at which you place your order. The time may also vary depending on the amount of tapes you would like to have converted.

We do offer special editing services. If you would like to have tapes edited for a special occasion, we would recommend having your tapes converted to USB/Hardrive. This option makes footage fully editable for use by yourself, or an external party.

Digital copies of all conversions will only be held for 3 weeks after completion. This is done in order to have a copy on hand to view if you contact us with an issue for which you require assistance to rectify. Once 3 weeks have passed without contact from you, we will assume that you are happy with your order and will subsequently dispose of the copies.

We understand that your tapes may contain private and personal content and as for such, they are not reviewed in full; however, they are checked at regular, short intervals to ensure that the entire tape converted to a satisfactory quality and to spot any potential issues.

FAQ - PHOTO SCANNING

  • Why should I digitize my old printed photos?
  • What type of scanner do you use?
  • Why is it better to scan negatives instead of printed photos?
  • Do you also offer photo restoration?
  • Which DPI do you choose for photo scanning?
  • Why are my scanned images so large?
  • Do you also offer A3 print scanning?
  • Why shouldn't I opt for TIFF scanning for printed photos?
  • How to pack prints to ship to ScanCorner?

There is a saying “There are few things money can’t buy” and ‘memories’ is one of those few things. We should scan photos to cherish the sweet memories of the past. When was the last time your entire family sat together and went through the old photos that were stacked in the shoeboxes and shoved underneath the bed? Through scanning you can: Preserve all the photos onto your laptop or home server. Create multiple copies of the digitized photos and share with your near and dear ones. Create photo albums and gift those to loved ones on special occasions. Get rid of the stacks of photos stored in various corners of the house. Label them, organize them, put notes on them.

We use EPSON Perfection V850 for scanning the photos, slides and negatives. Epson Perfection series is rated the best in terms of quality and reliability.

Printed photo is a processed version of negative. When converting a negative into printed photo, there is always a certain information loss. So, printed photo always have lesser information than a negative. Furthermore, negatives are usually in better condition when compared to photos. So, it is always better to scan negatives over printed photos.

Yes, we do scan and restore each photo. When you scan a photo at a very high resolution, you can find lots of dust and scratches on the photo. Even after employing Digital ICE, there are still some dust and scratches left on the photo. We use Adobe Photoshop Elements to restore the photo. We remove the scratches, perform color correction, do brightness and shadow adjustment on the photos. Our experts spend at least 3 minutes to restore each and every photo.

Higher the DPI one chooses, higher the quality. But scanning at higher DPI takes lot of time. There are various companies offering scanning services at lower dpi and thereby at lower prices. But the scan quality will not be very good and you may have to get those scanned again later. We, at ScanCorner, scan at the most optimal DPI. Each film format has a certain DPI level below which, the quality won’t be good and above which the marginal improvement in quality is very less but the file sizes will be higher. For 6x4 size photos (most common format), 600 DPI is the most optimal DPI. So, we scan the printed photos and 600 DPI.

The more information that you capture in a scan, the larger the file size will be. Information is defined as clarity, sharpness, color depth etc. A high resolution scan at 600dpi would give you a file of 5-7MB in jpeg and 30MB in TIFF format. Therefore, we do not recommend TIFF for the average customer. At the lower jpeg file size, you will be able to share images online and take up less space on your computer hard drive.

We do offer A3 print scanning. Epson photo scanners we use can scan only upto A4. So, for A3 size we do two separate scans and stitch these two scans using Adobe Photoshop Elements..

TIFF scan, also called lossless scan is always better than JPEG scan. But the file size of TIFF scan is so high and this makes it very difficult to store and move the TIFF files. For example, a high resolution scan at 600 DPI would give a 5-7 MB jpeg file and 30 MB in TIFF format. Therefore, we don’t recommend TIFF format scan for an average customer.

There are multiple ways to safely pack prints to ship to us. The easiest solution is to pack all printed photos into one or several plastic bags, put them into a sturdy carton box and ship to us. Sorting and segregating the prints can consume lot of time. So, we suggest you to ship those printed photos to us and after scanning, sort the digital files into various folders. You can find more information about packaging printed photos.

Unfortunately not. At this moment, we digitize the whole video. However, we add a scene selection so that you can select you directly watch your favorite scenes. It largely depends on the kind and extent of damage on a particular tape. we can repair the tapes but we can’t guarantee that the tape will be repaired. So, you can send us the distorted video tape. We shall do our best to repair. If we can’t repair the tape, we shall send it back to you at no additional cost.

We use MPEG2 codec for transferring Super8 tape to DVD. And the bit rate usually depends on the video format being converted. We usually convert NTSC videos with 720×480 29 images/sec and PAL videos with 720×576 25 images/sec. Over years of experience in video conversion, we came up with different bit rates to suit the medium we are converting and the quality of original tape.

As a process, we put each tape into a separate DVD. If you want multiple tapes in a single DVD, please do send us an e-mail.

To edit the footage we send you, you first need to “rip” the files from the DVD. Then you can import those files into video editing software and edit. However, there are certain limitations with this approach. The DVD we send contains compressed video footage. So, even if you successfully rip the files at highest quality settings, you still will be working with video footage this isn’t the best looking. And if you publish it again, after editing, to another DVD, it will suffer from another round of compression. So, we don’t generally recommend this approach.
