Video Tape Conversion

On average, magnetic tape has a lifetime of 10 to 30 years and because the VHS format has been in existence for over 35 years, much of the media in collections today are in the latter part of their lifetime. VHS tapes, like other tapes cannot be stored indefinitely with expectation of future retrieval of the recorded information. Therefore, now is the ideal time to migrate or convert the recordings off of old VHS tape and other tapes into a new video format. As more time passes, there is a greater risk of increased tape deterioration. This makes the tape more difficult to play and costly to migrate because remedial actions will be required to make it play properly. Waiting also results in the reduced availability of playback devices that are in good Condition. The information stored on these analog tapes needs to be migrated to a newer format if it is to remain accessible. With a new DIGITAL format a future migration to newer technology should be much simpler and much cheaper. A review of current storage should be reviewed approximately every 5-10 years in order to preserve content. It is good practice to make multiple copies and store at different locations.

Film Reel Conversions

Super 8 or Normal 8 reels were developed in the 60s. Whether holidays, family celebrations or company documentaries: everything was recorded with a movie camera. Everything seemed possible then and the technology very advanced. Today, however, the numerous reels are either in the basement or in a museum, because hardly anyone has a movie projector. Do you still remember what’s on these reels? If you want to keep the recorded moments for posterity and share them with your family, don’t hesitate to have us convert your movie and have it stored on DVD, USB or HDD.
We atMultimedia Rescue capture film reels to digital files and convert them to MPEG2 format, so that most DVD players can play the DVD on your television. Overall, we are able to fit 60 minutes of video content on a DVD. If your original film reel exceeds this time, we can distribute the data over multiple DVDs if required. Audio Capture

If you have recordings that are important to you, it's worth getting the best from them by using a specialist service such as ours. The alternatives, such as USB tape machines or recordings made directly into CD recorders or sound cards, tend to produce low-quality or distorted sound. Worse still, un-serviced playback machines can handle tape roughly, causing permanent damage and loss of content.
Multimedia Rescue offers a range of delivery formats for our audio transfers. We offer customers free assessment of their tape primarily because it can be difficult to know what treatments are necessary without examining the tape's physical condition. This is also why we are hesitant to advertise generic prices for our service because the condition of each tape will vary depending on its storage and playback history. Often we can figure out the condition of tape by visual assessment.
Once we have the 'raw transfer' there is the option to apply various restoration technologies. We only do this if it is explicitly requested from the customer because, in line with professional archival practices, we believe such actions compromise the authenticity of the transfer. We do, however, understand this level of authenticity is not paramount for all our clients, and in such cases applying audio restoration technologies may be desirable. The audio restoration services we offer include noise reduction, speed correction and volume correction.

Australian copyright law prohibits us from copying most commercially available records released since 1954. But we can still transfer your record if it's a custom home recording, a recording of your wedding, or if you're the artist who appears on the record.
Our transfer will include click and crackle reduction, manually tuned to keep the integrity of the audio.
